Pokemon enthusiasts across the globe are now anticipating the release of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, and who could blame them. Not only does it mark the first time a core installment has landed on the Nintendo 3DS, but it’s the first ever fully 3D Pocket Monster game. While the presentation in which Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed Pokemon X and Y got fans incredibly excited, it also left a number of questions in its wake; questions that many are now left to ponder. One of the biggest questions that anxious gamers were left wondering pertained to the two new legendary Pokemon that appeared in the debut trailer. Other than the fact that they each resembled the ‘X’ and ‘Y’ letters featured prominently at the end of each version’s title, they were left largely on display without even the slightest of details. Nintendo has now revealed the official names of the legendary duo, allowing those following the games’ development to grow accustomed to addressing the new creatures by something other than “the Y-shaped bird” and “colorful deer thing.” The Pokemon will now forever be known as Xerneas (pronounced ZURR-nee-us) and Yveltal (pronounced ee-VELL-tall), and they’ll each presumably be featured on the covers of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. Other than names, however, fans can only speculate about what the back stories and types are for both Xerneas and Yveltal. There’s no doubt that The Pokemon Company will get around to dropping more details eventually, but gamers still have a bit of a wait until that happens. In the meantime, anxious players can plan out which starter Pokemon they’d like to accompany them on this new journey (Fennekin, Chespin, or Froakie are the options). Hopefully more screenshots and details will arrive soon, because Pokemon Masters still have a 10 month wait before they can get their hands on either version of the game. Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are scheduled to launch on the Nintendo 3DS this October.
